The CZ 457 American is the traditional walnut-stocked member of CZ's 457 rimfire series — a classically styled .22 LR bolt-action that combines the 457 platform's mechanical refinements with the aesthetics of an American sporter hunting rifle. Manufactured in Uherský Brod, Czech Republic, the 457 American uses a cold-hammer-forged barrel — the same manufacturing process applied to CZ's centrefire rifle and pistol barrels — providing bore precision and longevity that mass-produced rimfire barrels cannot match.

The Turkish walnut stock features a high, flat comb specifically designed to provide a consistent cheekweld when using a riflescope mounted at standard height — a practical improvement over the lower comb of traditional iron-sight stocks that forces an awkward head position with optics. The comb height consideration is not cosmetic: it directly affects consistent cheekweld, which is a foundation of repeatable accuracy. Tasteful chequering on the grip and forend provides field grip security.

The 457 action introduces several improvements over the predecessor 452 series: a single-set trigger mechanism with adjustable geometry, a detachable magazine system using standard CZ 452/455/457 magazines, and a cold-hammer-forged barrel threaded at the muzzle for suppressor use.
